BVU student, faculty, and staff’s health and safety is our top priority, which requires us to extend the COVID-19 work-from-home policy for all non-essential employees through Friday, July 10, 2020. All Buena Vista University employees who have the ability to perform their duties from home are expected to do so.
In order to protect students, employees, and the surrounding community, the University is only hosting internal, BVU events through December 2021. Any external events that were scheduled to be hosted by external parties on campus have been cancelled, postponed, or will be conducted virtually through the remainder of the calendar year. State of Iowa Virus Assessment
The state of Iowa is asking that ALL citizens complete the virus test assessment and be tested if qualified. Please go to TestIowa.com to complete the assessment and more information. For questions call 211 or 800.244.7431. testiowa.com
Campus Dining Services
Both Cru5h and the Coffee Shop are closed until further notice.
Essential services like Campus Dining will be available to students who remain on campus. Campus Dining will reopen with modified hours beginning March 22, 2020 at 5 p.m.
In following social distancing restrictions, all meals will be served in disposable to-go containers and should be consumed in your residence hall room. Sodexo will schedule out specific times for meal pick-up to lower the number of individuals in an area and help combat ongoing risk.
The BVU Library is open virtually and our librarians are available online.
Our librarians have Zoom accounts so that they can interact with individual students for research assistance by appointment, and they also have the ability to scan or send items out through the mail if an electronic equivalent cannot be found.
They are also comfortable working with your students within Canvas. Feel free to add them as instructors to your class in Canvas, as they are also comfortable working with your students there.
If you are envisioning another way that the library would be more helpful for your students, please reach out them.
Our Health Services & Wellness office remains open via phone and/or email for students. If you believe you may have been exposed to COVID-19 and/or are showing symptoms, or feel sick, please go home and do not return to campus.

Campus Location Updates
All academic buildings and classrooms are closed with the exception of staff and faculty who require their offices.
The following locations are also closed until further notice:
- Lamberti Recreation Center
- Weight room
- Finkbine Natatorium
- J. Leslie Rollins Stadium/Peterson Field
- Outdoor Recreation House (Limited access will be provided for students looking to utilize the outdoors and practice social distancing)
Beginning March 19, the mailroom window will remain closed.
However the mailroom will work from 9 a.m. to noon during normal business days, allowing time to send/receive from all carriers. Departments will need to put a slip with the mail so that the mailroom will know where to charge it. All packages can be picked up and dropped off at the back door of the mailroom.
Our BVU Bookstore is currently operating online only. The bookstore has partnered with RedShelf to offer our students access to free e-books. For more information visit the bookstore's website here. Students can also explore the Free/Open Resources page to get more information about publishers and other educational organizations providing free access to materials for students.
The bookstore will continue to handle online orders as well as rental returns. For more information click the menu below.

Adoptions (Book Selections) for Term 5 and 6
Discover is now accessible for those who enter online adoptions for OSG. Please be mindful that there are eBooks available as well as physical books for the selections made.
Adoptions for Fall 2020 Semester and Term 1
Once canvas is available to faculty for next year’s courses, the BVU Bookstore will send training information to complete their adoptions online through canvas.
The BVU Bookstore will continue to fulfill online orders as they come in. We are currently offering free shipping for all online orders. All orders will be shipped once a day via FedEx, and anything ordered after 10 a.m. will ship the next day.

As we resume learning on March 30, please make your students are aware of their class times. Unless you decide otherwise, please communicate that your classes will virtually meet at their regularly scheduled times.
Pass/Fail Grading Options
The deadline for changing to Pass/Fail (P/F) grading has been moved back to May 1, 2020. We have waived the P/F limit for students this term, which means that you can opt to take as many courses P/F as you wish. Please consult with your academic advisor if you at any point plan to switch your course(s) to P/F grading.
Center for Academic Excellence
Students can sign up for online tutoring appointments here. If they have any difficulties, please email Donna Musel at firstname.lastname@example.org. Online tutoring is also available through the Smart Thinking link in canvas course pages. If they already have prescheduled appointments, please have them work with Donna Musel to make sure these are updated to virtual meetings.
Updated Registration Dates
On Thursday March 18, 2020 the registrar, Steph Wilhelm, sent you an email regarding registration timeline changes. Below is the new timeline for registration:
Honors Program Students: March 31
Seniors and Juniors: April 1-5
Sophomores: April 6-12
First year students: April 13-19
Special: April 20
Students can reach out to their academic advisors via email, phone, or text to set up an appointment to discuss course plans and register for classes next fall.
Buena Vista University's commencement ceremonies will be held on Oct 11, 2020, on the Sunday of the 2020 BVU Homecoming celebration. We look forward to making this a memorable event for our graduates!

Program Evaluation will continue as planned and the work of the Faculty Elected Body will move forward as planned. If you are interested in attending an online open listening session for faculty and staff, please email Katelyn Adams. Should demand for attending these listening sessions exceed the planned times, additional sessions will be added.
Please work through University Marketing and Communications when sharing information on BVU procedures and communications regarding COVID-19 and BVU happenings related to the virus. This includes mass emails, posts on social media, messages via Canvas, messages posted in lounges, etc. If you feel that you must provide students or other groups with information that is not included on our University Resource page, please email Kelsey Clausen and/or Megan McKeever. Note that vice presidents from each division are working closely with UMC on messaging, and they can be a resource for relaying necessary communications to UMC as well. We plan to continue updating students, faculty, and staff regularly as information develops.
