We are pleased to provide a listing of outside scholarships that may benefit Buena Vista University students.

Only state and local scholarship opportunities will be accepted and posted on this website.

Carver Scholarship

This scholarship is offered to a BVU sophomore student who is an Iowa resident with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8. The award is $8,000 per year and renewable for your senior year (a total of $16,000 awarded during the Junior/Senior years). To be eligible for this scholarship, students must present evidence of something unusual that is hindering the student from reaching their education goals (some kind of “social barrier” or challenging/debilitating situation; some examples of candidates in the past that have received this scholarship include: student that has a major illness, parents with an illness, or had a family member with a disability).

This scholarship requires that you file the FAFSA by March 1, 2024 and the Carver Scholarship application must be completed by April 1, 2024. You may apply online at www.carvertrust.org.

LifeServe Scholarship

LifeServe will award up to $500 in scholarship funds to students who organize a successful blood drive during the summer (Memorial Day - Labor Day) or winter (December and January) scholarship periods! To be eligible for the scholarship award, students must recruit donors, act as the chairperson for the blood drive, and register 25 donors ($250 awarded) or 40 donors ($500 awarded). Health Care Careers Scholarship 

The Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) is proud to support the Health Care Careers Scholarship program. Available through the Iowa Hospital Education and Research Foundation (IHERF), an IHA subsidiary, these scholarships of up to $7,000 ($3,500 per year for a maximum of two years, applicants must apply each year) each have supported higher education for more than 600 Iowa college students.

Students (standard and nontraditional) must meet and agree to these requirements before applying:

  • Students must be enrolled in an accredited program leading to licensure or a clinical laboratory degree.
  • Students must be within three years of completing their professional education.
  • Students must complete the online application form by the deadline.
  • Following graduation, students must agree to work for an Iowa hospital (including Iowa hospital-owned clinics and long-term care facilities) for one year for each scholarship awarded. Employment must be in the career and in the district selected on the application form.
  • If the scholarship is for the Emergency Medical Technology/Technician Certification Program, students must work for one year with an EMT company serving Iowa hospitals in the district selected on the application form.

Iowa Student Loan Scholarships

Iowa Student Loan® has multiple scholarship programs for high school students, college students, and parents and guardians.

The ISL Midwest Senior Scholarship offers ten $1,000 college scholarships through a random drawing from among high school seniors from states surrounding Iowa through the ISL Midwest Senior Scholarship.

The ISL Education Lending Scholarship offers 45 $1,000 scholarships through a random drawing for high school and undergraduate college students, as well as their parents, who reside in Iowa.

The Student Planning Pointers for Parents offers 160 $250 awards annually through a quarterly drawing for 40 college savings account deposits for parents or guardians who sign up for a twice monthly email service.

Sallie Mae College Answer® Scholarship Resource offers tips for a successful scholarship search and application process, as well as other information on the scholarship process. You can also sign up for a monthly drawing for a $2,000 scholarship here, as well. College Answer Scholarship

The Bridging the Dream Scholarship for high school seniors helps make the dream of higher education a reality.

The TMCF | Sallie Mae Fund Completing the Dream Gap Scholarship offers financial assistance to outstanding students attending an accredited post-secondary institution to help close the gap in funding toward the end of their college career.

The Bridging the Dream Scholarship for graduate students promotes diversity in higher education among minority students and other historically underserved communities.
