Marty Barnes

Marty Barnes serves as Coach of the Buena Vista University Rodeo team.

Barnes, a 1984 graduate of Iowa State University, was born and raised into Barnes PRCA Rodeo, a company started by his father, Bob Barnes, more than 70 years ago. The company supplies stock for rodeos across the U.S., including the first National Finals Rodeo in 1959. Barnes now owns and manages all aspects of the livestock, rodeo production, and breeding program of Barnes PRCA Rodeo with his eldest son, Westin, and their families. 

Since 1976, Barnes has been a member/contestant of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, earning seven year-end circuit championships including one All-Around in 1999 and qualifying for the National Circuit Finals 15 times in Saddle Bronc Riding. 

In 2016, he was inducted into the Iowa High School Rodeo Association Hall of Fame. In 2018, the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) named Barnes its Stock Contractor of the Year. 

Barnes has coached his sons and daughters as well as hundreds of young competitors in all aspects of rodeo. He continues to work with rodeo athletes at the Rafter B Bar Ranch, home of the Barnes PRCA Rodeo company near Peterson.
