Soccer Game-Night Event Draws Big Crowd

Student-athletes join parents, friends, and soccer alumni for in-game tailgate

Nearly 80 parents, student-athletes, friends, and alumni turned out for a BVU soccer alumni event hosted on Peterson Field in conjunction with the opening of the home seasons for the women’s and men’s soccer teams. Attendees enjoyed food and beverages as the Beavers competed against the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran College inside J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.

“I loved getting to be back on campus and seeing my old teammates along with new ones,” said Nikki Schuppan ’22. “I got to see where the program is heading, and it makes me excited to be from BVU.”

Schuppan, a soccer letterwinner and current soccer official, teaches math at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School in Hartley.

“We are grateful for a wonderful turnout and for the support we receive from our Beaver alumni as well as parents and student-athletes and friends involved with the soccer program,” said Kelsey Resnick, Men’s Soccer Head Coach. “Having so many people in attendance on a beautiful evening inspired us and kept us going. It is great to see so much support for Beaver soccer!”

The Sodexo staff served burgers, hot dogs and more in a picnic setting staged at the tailgate area immediately east of Peterson Field.

“We’re appreciative of the work Sodexo personnel and BVU Athletics staff members did in helping us organize a fun game-night event that drew so many Beavers together,” said Sarah Johnson, BVU Director for Alumni Engagement. “Keep watching for similar events and return to campus to renew friendships while cheering on the Beavers!”

Upcoming alumni events associated with BVU Athletics include a Nine-and-Dine for BVU golf on Sept. 15, an alumni lunch and reception before a BVU volleyball match on Oct. 7, and Homecoming festivities throughout Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13-14.
