Screenplay Earns Honor in Atlanta Festival
BVU alum, Jennifer Galm, is a finalist in an international film festival for her screenplay "Dandelion."
A screenplay by Buena Vista University alum Jennifer Galm has been named a quarterfinalist in the 2021 Atlanta Film Festival, one of the largest and longest running festivals in the country.
“I knew the Atlanta Film Festival screenplay competition was well-respected and highly competitive,” says Galm, a 2014 BVU graduate. “I had made a goal to be recognized by the ATLFF for my work.”
Galm’s first screenplay, “Dandelion,” was one of 2,385 screenplays submitted for adjudication in the prestigious show. The story, according to Galm, is that of a little girl who believes in the magic of dandelion wishes.
“In most cases,” Galm says, “what we most desire is right in front of us.”
During her time as an undergraduate at BVU, Galm served as a staff writer for “The Tack,” BVU’s online newspaper. She also served as Co-President for BVU’s LGBTQ organization, Time Out. With BVU’s Art Club, she was responsible for social media posts. She also joined the Society for Collegiate Journalists and worked as an academic assistant in the BVU Art Department.
She graduated with magna cum laude honors and became Executive Director for an art center and gallery. One year ago, she relocated to Atlanta while seeking to nurture her creative side.
“I am totally in love with the story in ‘Dandelion,’” she says. “Even if ‘Dandelion’ never gets made into a film, it is an example of writing I can use in my portfolio to acquire an agent or become a writer on another project.”
