Micah Barnes Shows BVU Pride at Wisconsin Rodeo

The BVU junior manages to make time for regional rodeo competitions throughout the year, thanks to the support of BVU faculty and staff. She also plays guard on the Beaver women’s basketball team.

Micah Barnes, a junior Buena Vista University, sported a BVU vest at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) Rodeo on Sept. 7-8, 2018.

Micah is a granddaughter of the late Bob Barnes, who founded the Cherokee Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Rodeo. In 2016, Micah placed in the top 15 in both the breakaway and goats categories in the Iowa High School Rodeo Association rankings.

The biology major is proud to continue her family’s legacy in college. She manages to make time for regional rodeo competitions throughout the year thanks to the support of BVU faculty and staff who assist her as needed when she misses class for competitions. Micah also plays guard on the BVU women’s basketball team.

The UWRF's Rodeo averages 300 participants each year, which includes students from across the Great Lakes region. Barrel racing typically has the most contestants, but all events draw a crowd. They include saddle bronc riding, bull riding, goat tying, calf roping, steer wrestling, and more.
