Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration
Buena Vista University's Offices of Multicultural Engagement and Spiritual Life are hosting "MLK Day Celebration: A tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr." on Monday, Jan. 19 on the BVU campus.
Buena Vista University's Offices of Multicultural Engagement and Spiritual Life are hosting "MLK Day Celebration: A tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr." on Monday, Jan. 19 on the BVU campus. The event is free and open to the public to attend.
The celebration will begin at 5 p.m. with light refreshments outside Anderson Auditorium in the Harold Walter Siebens Forum on the BVU campus, and the program will begin at 6 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium.
The program will feature a keynote speech by Jennifer Harbour, professor of black studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and she will speak about events that led up to Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech and current race relations. The program will also include a multicultural dance performance, Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech in different languages, essay readings from two Alta-Aurelia fourth grade students, and a performance by the Storm Lake Middle School Choir. The evening will end with a pledge of nonviolence.
