Dr. Al Lewis Memorial Challenge Success

The memorial funds given for Dr. Al Lewis honor the life of the adored coach and faculty emeritus. The endowments in his name will now make an even greater impact on educational opportunities for students in the exercise science program.

Last February, following the passing of Dr. Al (Doc) Lewis, an adored coach and faculty emeritus, Doc's family, Dee, Blake and Brad, decided to announce a giving challenge to his former students and friends.

The family would match memorial gifts made to either of the following funds:

  • The Dr. Albert Lewis Endowment Fund, which supports the exercise science program in many ways.  Funds from this endowment have been used to send students to conferences, as well as purchase new equipment and teaching tools.
  • The Dr. Al Lewis Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by fellow alumni in 2008 to provide scholarships for deserving students who are majoring in exercise science.

The total added to the endowments through this challenge was $28,150!

In addition to matching the funds made to the endowments, the family also purchased a bench for campus, which offers Beaver fans a perfect view of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium and Peterson Field.

Thank you to all who donated and especially to Dee, Blake and Brad for their generous gesture.
