Digital Media Students Earn 39 ICMA Honors
KBVU again named Iowa College Radio Station of the Year in Iowa College Media Association awards contest.

Buena Vista University earned 39 awards, including two major honors, in the Iowa College Media Association’s annual contest held in February.
For the third time in four years, KBVU was named the Iowa College Radio Station of the Year. BVU senior Blake McMillan, of KBVU, also earned the coveted First Amendment Award for his work, “Art Censorship: The First Amendment and Visual Arts.”
All told, BVU students earned 11 first-place awards representing efforts within programming at BVTV, KBVU, and The Tack.
“We are so proud of what our digital media students and programs have done in the past year,” says Dr. Andrea Frantz, Professor of Digital Media. “BVU students earned 39 awards in a contest that’s becoming more competitive each year with the addition of other colleges in Iowa. Student productions in print/online, multimedia, audio, and video continue to help shape what others across Iowa are doing in this ever-dynamic field.”
“Our students can be proud of themselves as they did very well,” says Jerry Johnson, Assistant Professor of Digital Media. “Students enjoyed seeing these results and it spurred several conversations already about upcoming projects that will be part of next year’s contest.”
Frantz and Johnson presented the honors to students during a recent reception in Lage Communications Center that coincided with the ICMA ceremony that was held virtually due to COVID-19 concerns.
