On Saturday, April 11, approximately 50 BVU students participated in a dance marathon to raise money for UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's Children's Miracle Network.

BVU students raised $3,000, which will be used to enhance children's healthcare services at St. Luke's through the purchase of new equipment and supplies and to fund special services and health education for children and families.

Students raised donations by staying on their feet during the event, which lasted from noon to 5 p.m., by dancing, playing games, and participating in several activities. At the start of every hour, participants learned a piece of moral dance choreographed by BVU students. Music for the event was provided by Moving in Stereo (MIS) and a live music show by "Scratch and Bang," a drummer and DJ musical duo. Between dances and events, a family who was impacted by CMN shared their stories, which in turn, helped students gain new perspectives and appreciate the value of their work.

"Through this event, students learned even more about philanthropy and that service is not only about giving of your time, but it is about advocating for a cause that is close to you," says Dr. Ashley Farmer-Hanson, assistant dean for student life and director of civic engagement. "St. Luke's was impacted not only by our donation, but also our partnership by seeing how much the college students cared about their efforts and wanted to help. I am sure all of us will remember the stories, laughter, and things we learned along the way to make this event a success."
