Collaboration Remains at the Heart of All We Do
As we welcome in the Class of 2025, we welcome the opportunity to work together with members of our community.
I hope you all had a happy Fourth of July, Beavers! In just a matter of weeks, campus will be teeming with activity!
In June, the 2021-22 academic year at BVU began coming into focus as Admissions hosted four Orientation Day efforts for hundreds of high school seniors on campus.
The incoming Class of 2025 excites me, as we’ve got valedictorians, state champions, community leaders, singers, gamers, and musicians eager to join the Beaver family. It was rewarding to see students meet and greet peers who will surely become their lifelong friends, establishing relationships as they grow into adults right in our midst. (This has always been one of the best benefits of being an educator, playing witness to budding friendships that grow for decades.)
As part of their transition to BVU, we invite parents of current students to share their wisdom with parents and guardians preparing their student for arrival in August. Eight BVU parents offered thoughts, answers, and enthusiasm on a variety of topics ranging from laundry detergent to use of the lake to where to shop in Storm Lake for those last-minute items come move-in day.
Storm Lake Police Chief Chris Cole, a BVU parent on the panel, talked about how BVU Campus Security, which is staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week, works with the Storm Lake Police Department.
Chris and his wife, Dr. Stacey Cole ’96 the Storm Lake Superintendent of Schools, related the positive experience their daughter has enjoyed as a BVU Beaver in her freshman year. Stacey reported they’ll have another child at BVU in August as a freshman, one of 33 new “Legacy” students at BVU this fall!
Chris then shared his cell phone number with the entire group of parents. “I’ll give you my cell, and I encourage you to call or text me at any time. Your child’s safety is our No. 1 priority. I’m a parent just like you. I want all of our students protected. And I want your son or daughter to have the best experience possible at BVU and in Storm Lake.”
This example showed the ways in which we build up and serve one another at BVU; a fact the Coles and many parents—and BVU Alumni like you—often illustrate.
Have a great July and enjoy the rest of your summer. Go Beavers!
