BVU, South Central Calhoun Align Through Strategic Partnership
Through a Strategic Partnership with Buena Vista University, South Central Calhoun Community School District can offer educational benefits to their employees and their families.

Buena Vista University (BVU) and the South Central Calhoun Community School District (SCC) have entered into a Strategic Partnership that will benefit both organizations as they strive to strengthen the people and communities they serve.
Under the agreement, employees of the South Central Calhoun Community School District, as well as their spouses and dependents, may receive grant funding to lower the overall cost of education while enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost per credit hour for students enrolled in BVU’s convenient online/hybrid undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program courses.
BVU professors and staff are also available for training programs, workshops, and more should SCC administrators and teachers seek those services and expertise.
“I'm very excited about the Strategic Partnership BVU is offering to SCC staff and families,” adds Peggy Neubaum, a BVU graduate who serves as SCC Middle School Language Arts Instructor. “I received my teaching degree from BVU, and my son is currently working on his undergraduate degree there. I feel BVU offers an excellent education, has a forward-thinking and professional staff, and is very willing to adapt to one’s specific educational needs. This is a wonderful way for both of our schools to encourage further education.”

“Building upon our employee benefits package with educational discounts from Buena Vista University is an appealing addition for our employees and their families,” says South Central Calhoun Superintendent of Schools Brad Anderson. “BVU, the alma mater for many of our teachers, is a great local resource and having BVU professionals working with members of the SCC family as they advance their educational paths and their careers is a positive development for our district and the communities and children we serve.”

The South Central Community School District, which features an enrollment of 850, educates children PK-12 in and around the communities of Rockwell City, Lake City, Lytton, Lohrville, Jolley, Yetter, and Lanesboro. The district has consistently served as a host for BVU student-teachers for decades, as veteran educators at SCC serve in a mentoring role for BVU students in the School of Education.
“We’re extremely pleased to be a partner with a great district like South Central Calhoun in our Strategic Partnerships initiative,” says Laura Todd, BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships. “Offering staff members and their families an even more accessible path toward a BVU education is one way that all of us, through education, can work to build our communities, organizations, and people throughout the region.”
