BVU, Schleswig Community School District Join in Strategic Partnership

Through a collaboration with Buena Vista University, Schleswig Community School District offers educational benefits to its employees and their eligible family members.

Buena Vista University (BVU) and Schleswig Community School District have aligned as Strategic Partners, providing new opportunities to transform the communities both entities serve.

This partnership allows for employees of Schleswig Community School District, as well as eligible family members of full-time employees, to receive grant funding to lower the overall cost per credit hour while enrolled in BVU’s convenient online undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost of education for students enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus.

“We are truly excited to offer our staff the opportunity to continue their education through a high-quality institution at a reduced cost,” said Mallory Meyer, Business Manager at Schleswig Community School District. “In addition, the district participated in the Teacher and Paraeducator Registered Apprenticeship program offered by the Iowa Department of Education, further expanding pathways for our staff to grow within the profession. We are proud to invest in opportunities that make advanced education and career development more accessible and affordable for our team.”

The Schleswig Community School District, located in Schleswig, operates an elementary school serving students in kindergarten through 4th grade and a middle school for grades 5 through 8. The district also offers a preschool program in partnership with Immanuel Lutheran Church, housed at the church facility. It employs more than 30 staff members and has a certified enrollment of 230 students, and a served enrollment of 136 students.

The Schleswig Community School District work and learn each day in an environment guided by its HAWK expectations: Have Respect, Act Responsible, Work Hard, Keep a Positive Attitude, and Show Kindness. These core values shape the district’s culture and hold the school community accountable to high standards of character and achievement.

“Our partnership with the Schleswig Community School District is an exciting step forward in providing valuable educational opportunities for employees and their families,” says Laura Todd, BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships. “By investing in education, we are investing in the strength of our communities. We are dedicated to this collaboration to ensure a lasting, positive impact for everyone involved.”
