BVU, Okoboji Schools Connect Through Strategic Partnership
By partnering with Buena Vista University, the Okoboji Community School District offers educational benefits to its employees and their eligible family members.
Buena Vista University (BVU) and the Okoboji Community School District have joined forces as Strategic Partners to fortify their communities and the people they serve.
This partnership allows employees of the Okoboji schools, as well as eligible family members of full-time employees, to receive grant funding to lower the overall cost of education while enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost per credit hour for students enrolled in BVU’s convenient online/hybrid undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program.
“Education represents a pathway forward for our employees and those we serve on a daily basis. Making a quality BVU education that much more accessible can only serve to boost our employees and this region for generations to come.”
Okoboji Superintendent of Schools Todd Abrahamson, a 1998 BVU graduate
“A Strategic Partnership with Buena Vista University makes sense for our employees, their family members, and our communities,” says Okoboji Superintendent of Schools Todd Abrahamson, a 1998 BVU graduate. “Education represents a pathway forward for our employees and those we serve on a daily basis. Making a quality BVU education that much more accessible can only serve to boost our employees and this region for generations to come.”
Abrahamson notes this benefit is made even more accessible to those in the Okoboji district because of the access employees and their families have to BVU’s longtime partner, Iowa Lakes Community College. For decades, BVU has long enjoyed educational ties with Iowa Lakes Community College as students enrolled in a program through Iowa Lakes can seamlessly transfer their credits toward their bachelor’s degree at BVU. Students receive personalized support including admissions and enrollment counseling and academic advising through BVU’s offices on the Iowa Lakes campus locations in nearby Estherville, Emmetsburg, and Spencer.
The Okoboji Community School District, located in the heart of the Iowa Great Lakes, provides educational programs for nearly 1,200 students of Milford, Wahpeton, West Okoboji, Arnolds Park, and northern Fostoria. The school district, which employs 222, features three school locations in a high school, middle school, and an elementary school.
“Buena Vista University is thrilled to partner with the Okoboji Community School District as both institutions strive to challenge and reward students and their communities through teaching professionals, supportive staff members, strong communities, and initiatives such as the Strategic Partnership,” says BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships Laura Todd. “We are proud to have a partner in the Okoboji Community School District.
