BVU Offers Four-Year Fully Online Degree Program

More students will have the opportunity to conveniently learn where they live and work through BVU's new four-year fully online degrees.

Buena Vista University, a regional leader in online education for 15 years, is expanding its offerings by allowing students to earn four-year degrees in a completely online format, the result of an initiative by the University’s Extended University Programs division.

Eleven majors, which include their separate concentrations, may now be completed in four years by students who prefer the convenience of online instruction. BVU professors will use technology offered through Canvas, a Learning Management System BVU students already use for its ease of navigation, convenient conversation logs, assignment and exam listings, assignment submissions, chat space with peers and professors, and more.

“Since its founding, Buena Vista University has been at the forefront in offering a liberal arts education tailored for students, meeting them at accessible points, doing all we can to help our learners advance in their careers, their communities, and more,” says Jean Bral, BVU Vice President for Extended University Programs. “We’ve shown this in a variety of ways, ranging from state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure on our main campus in Storm Lake, to a statewide network of community college partnerships that began more than four decades ago.

“The convenience and ease through technological advances will now allow students a fully online experience in earning their bachelor’s degree through BVU.”

“In offering fully online four-year degrees, BVU takes yet another step forward in meeting students where they live, work, and learn,” Bral continues. “The convenience and ease through technological advances will now allow students a fully online experience in earning their bachelor’s degree through BVU.”

Students will have the support of their enrollment counselor, personal advisor, and financial specialists. These dedicated staff members will assist them through the enrollment process, and the entire length of their program. Course plans are tailored to fit each student, their goals, and their lifestyle. In addition, students can receive tutoring support, enjoy full use of BVU’s virtual library services, and have tech support through 2Fix, the University’s Information Technology Department.

Having students begin their four-year bachelor’s degree journey through BVU’s online program also allows the University to establish partnerships with companies that seek to assist their employees in earning a degree. Katie Smith, BVU’s Director for Strategic Partnerships, is excited to work with companies in establishing mutually beneficial partnerships. These partnerships will include BVU Grants or discounted tuition rates for partner employees, spouses, and dependents.

The following is a list of BVU majors now available fully online: Accounting; Agricultural Business; Agricultural Studies, Applied Management, Bachelors of Applied Studies, Business with five concentrations including Agricultural Business, Management, Marketing, Sport Business, and Financial Decision Making; Criminology and Criminal Justice; Distributive, both General and Health Services Leadership; Human Services; Organizational Leadership with emphasis in either Business or Human Services; and Psychology.
