BVU Names New School of Education Dean
A native of Cleveland, Monroe-Baillargeon's research focuses on inclusive education, teacher education, and literacy.
Buena Vista University has announced that Dr. Ann Monroe-Baillargeon has been named dean of the School of Education. She will assume the role on June 29.
Prior to joining BVU, Monroe-Baillargeon worked at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Conn., where she served as dean of the School of Education for three years before returning to faculty for one year. Monroe-Baillargeon also spent time at Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y., where she served as department chair and professor of education.
In addition to her other professional roles, Monroe-Baillargeon previously taught at Nazareth College in New York and the University of Rochester in New York, as well as at several locations overseas, including schools in West Africa, South Africa, Bangladesh, Thailand, Egypt, and Spain. Monroe-Baillargeon has also served as a consultant for the New York State Department of Education and the New York State School Boards Association.
A native of Cleveland, Monroe-Baillargeon’s research focuses on inclusive education, teacher education, and literacy. Her work in teacher education has been informed by her 15 years of K-12 teaching and leadership.
“As the incoming dean of the School of Education, I am very excited to be joining the welcoming and inclusive community of Buena Vista University,” said Monroe-Baillargeon. “I look forward to leading the School of Education as we work together in building upon outstanding programs to create new educational opportunities and partnerships locally and globally.”
Monroe-Baillargeon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in special education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a Master of Science degree in educational leadership from the University of Southern Maine, and a Ph.D. in teaching and curriculum from Syracuse University.
“I am very pleased that Dr. Monroe-Baillargeon will be joining our leadership team next year,” added Dr. Brian Lenzmeier, provost and vice president for academic affairs at BVU. “She is a talented teacher and administrator who brings a wealth of experience working in education at multiple levels. We are fortunate to have her leading our up-and-coming education programs.”
Outside of work, Monroe-Baillargeon enjoys listening to live music, biking, hiking and water sports, traveling the world, and spending time with family. She has three adult children who reside in Chicago; Jersey City, N.J.; and Syracuse, N.Y.
