BVU Names New Business Dean

Buena Vista University is excited to announce that Dr. James Falter will be the new dean of the Harold Walter Siebens School of Business. He will assume the role July 1, 2016.

Buena Vista University is excited to announce that Dr. James Falter will be the new dean of the Harold Walter Siebens School of Business. He will assume the role July 1, 2016.

Falter has been a director at the Dauch College of Business & Economics as well as the lead faculty for the MBA program at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio, since 2013. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Falter managed and coordinated activities associated with a multi-million-dollar student investment portfolio.

He is a 1989 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he majored in business economics. Falter earned his master’s of business administration degree in management (1993) from University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio, and his D.B.A. in finance (2001) from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

BVU President Fred Moore said, “We are delighted that Dr. Falter has agreed to become the next dean of the Harold Walter Siebens School of Business. He is a highly accomplished academic entrepreneur who epitomizes Dr. Siebens’ vision for the school and will be a splendid addition to our community of learners.”

During his academic career, Falter served as chair of the department of business and economics and associate professor of finance at Marietta College (Marietta, Ohio), as well as chair and founding dean at University of Charleston’s (Charleston, W. Va.) school of business.

“With a strong emphasis on student learning and positioning graduates to excel in the marketplace, I am excited about leading the Harold Walter Siebens School of Business. In addition to the dedicated faculty, I am impressed with the entire campus, alumni, and Storm Lake and northwest Iowa. BVU has a great upside and look forward to contributing to it.”

Falter is a Fulbright Scholar with experience in the Baltic region of Europe. He served as a visiting finance professor at the University of New York (Tirana) and at the American University of Kosovo (Pristina) where he conducted research and taught management and finance. In addition to his academic responsibilities and extensive publications, Dr. Falter has developed relationships with corporate partners with an emphasis on fundraising, relationship management and development.
