BVU, Marshalltown Community Schools Build People, Communities
The Marshalltown Community School District, a top employer in Marshall County, joins Buena Vista University in a Strategic Partnership to provide educational benefits to its employees and their family members.
Buena Vista University (BVU) and the Marshalltown Community School District have entered into a Strategic Partnership that will benefit both entities as they work to strengthen people and areas they serve.
Under the agreement, Marshalltown Community School District employees, as well as their spouses and dependents, may receive grant funding to lower the overall cost of education while enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost per credit hour for students enrolled in BVU’s convenient online/hybrid undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program courses.
BVU professors and staff are also available for training programs, workshops, and more should officials within the Marshalltown schools seek those services and expertise.
“BVU believes that an accessible education remains at the heart of building individuals and communities. Marshalltown, BVU, and Iowa, will all benefit as a result of this partnership.”
Laura Todd, BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships
“BVU’s Strategic Partnership represents a wonderful opportunity to enhance our benefits package offered to some 900 employees who continually strive to make us the best district we can be,” says Marshalltown Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte. “Making a post-secondary education more accessible and affordable allows our employees to grow, advancing their knowledge as they continue to challenge and aid the young people of our district in reaching goals and celebrating successes each day.”
The Marshalltown Community School District, which serves residents of Marshalltown, Albion, and Haverill, educates approximately 5,000 students PK-12. The district, which features one of just five school board teams in the state to earn an Iowa Association of School Boards Team Achievement Award in 2020, is among Marshall County’s top employers.
BVU enjoys educational ties in and around Marshalltown, home to Marshalltown Community College, a site that has collaborated with BVU for decades, as BVU celebrates its 45th anniversary in partnering with community colleges across Iowa. Students enrolled in a program through MCC can seamlessly transfer their credits toward their bachelor’s degree at BVU. Students receive personal support including admissions and enrollment counseling and academic advising right in Marshalltown through BVU’s office on the MCC campus.
“We are honored to be working with the Marshalltown Community School District, an innovative leader practicing initiatives such as the dual-language program and the Marshalltown Virtual Academy in an effort to further empower learners, families, educators, and the district,” says Laura Todd, BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships. “BVU believes that an accessible education remains at the heart of building individuals and communities. Marshalltown, BVU, and Iowa, will all benefit as a result of this partnership.”
