BVU, Lewis Central Schools Join In Strategic Partnership
Collaboration with Buena Vista University offers educational opportunities for Lewis Central Community School District employees and their eligible family members.
Buena Vista University (BVU) and the Lewis Central Community School District have entered into a Strategic Partnership that helps to support those who educate students while strengthening both organizations’ communities and the people they serve.
This partnership allows for employees of the Lewis Central Community School District, as well as eligible family members of full-time employees, to receive grant funding to lower the overall cost per credit hour while enrolled in BVU’s convenient online undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost of education for students enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus.
“When you’re an educator, you are always excited about people being lifelong learners,” says Lewis Central Community School District Coordinator of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Dr. Lisa Hartman. “This is an opportunity to provide that to staff who may be looking to continue their education and live that experience of being a lifelong learner.”

Located in Council Bluffs, the Lewis Central Community School District serves about 3,125 students. About 500 educators oversee the school district’s four learning centers—Kreft Primary for students in preschool-first grade, Titan Hill Intermediate for grades 2-5, Lewis Central Middle School for grades 6-8, and Lewis Central High School for grades 9-12.
Focused on inspiring excellence in every student, the Lewis Central Community School District’s mission is evident in the high level of participation and performance displayed by learners in extra-curricular activities, including athletics and fine arts. In addition, Lewis Central High School received national recognition for academic and educational excellence three years ago when it was named a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
BVU has long enjoyed strong educational ties in and around Council Bluffs, home to Iowa Western Community College, a campus that has collaborated with BVU for decades. Students enrolled in a program through Iowa Western can seamlessly transfer their credits toward their bachelor’s degree at BVU. Students receive personalized support including admissions and enrollment counseling and academic advising right in Council Bluffs through BVU’s office on the Iowa Western campus.
“Buena Vista University is elated to collaborate with the Lewis Central Community School District, extending educational benefits to its employees and their eligible family members through our Strategic Partnerships initiative,” says BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships Laura Todd. “An accessible and affordable education remains at the heart of building stronger individuals and communities, so we look forward to witnessing the opportunities created through this Strategic Partnership.”
