BVU, Humboldt Schools Join In Strategic Partnership
By partnering with Buena Vista University, the Humboldt Community School District broadens educational benefits to its employees and their eligible family members.
Buena Vista University (BVU) and the Humboldt Community School District have joined forces as Strategic Partners to help those who serve students.
This partnership allows for employees of Humboldt Community School District, as well as eligible family members of full-time employees, to receive grant funding to lower the overall cost of education while enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost per credit hour for students enrolled in BVU’s convenient online undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program.
“Partnering with BVU allows our employees more choice with affordable options for continuing education,” says Humboldt Community School District Superintendent Jim Murray. “BVU offers great programs and learning opportunities that employees may not have been aware of or could afford. Hopefully, this opportunity removes barriers that may have prevented enrollment.”

The Humboldt Community School District boasts about 220 professionals who educate about 1,400 students in grades preschool-12 at four learning centers in Humboldt. The school district also maintains a whole-grade sharing agreement for students in grades 6-12 with the nearby communities of Bode and Livermore. Providing strong academic programs and supporting students’ socio-emotional needs remain top priorities for the school district, which also prides itself on its strong extracurricular activities that draw in a large number of students.
“We have an outstanding staff that routinely goes above and beyond in their work,” says Murray. “They truly care about their students, and this partnership provides an opportunity to strengthen an already strong skill set.”
“BVU provided me with outstanding leadership training. The networking was excellent. I am still friends and reach out to my cohort classmates,” says Murray, M.Ed. '01. “The BVU professors were excellent in their work and recognized the need to personalize the experience while accommodating busy professionals like me.”
“Buena Vista University is excited to partner with the Humboldt Community School District through our Strategic Partnerships initiative to provide affordable, accessible education to employees and their family members,” says BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships Laura Todd. “We look forward to this collaboration with Humboldt schools and the opportunities it opens for individuals.”
