BVU to Hold First "Draped in Confidence" Clothing Drive for Students

The event - which is designed to help current BVU students who are in need of professional attire - will take place on April 11 from 4-7 p.m. in the Estelle Siebens Science Center.

Buena Vista University’s student organization, Student MOVE (Mobilizing Outreach & Volunteer Efforts), and Office of Career and Personal Development are set to host the first-ever Draped in Confidence clothing drive on April 11.

The event – which is designed to help current BVU students who are in need of professional attire – will take place from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Estelle Siebens Science Center (Room 139) on the BVU campus.

“This is a wonderful partnership with local Philanthropic Educational Organization chapters, businesses, and areas on campus to meet a need that individuals on campus have,” said Dr. Ashley Farmer-Hanson, assistant dean for student life and director of civic engagement at BVU. “I’m excited to see the event kick off and the impact it will have on students’ futures.”

The following donations will be accepted:

  • Jackets, blazers, and cardigans
  • Shirts and blouses
  • Scarves
  • Tights and stockings
  • Gift cards to Maurices or Osweiler’s of Storm Lake

“Whether the need is because of financials, not being able to go home to grab professional clothing, or an unexpected professional opportunity, women should be able to have somewhere to turn,” said Aubrey Anderson, a junior communication studies major from Worthington, Minn. Anderson serves as a co-vice president of Storm Lake service events for Student MOVE.

Donations will be housed in the Office of Career and Personal Development, located across from the Lehnus Campus Bookstore on the BVU campus, allowing for confidential assistance to students.

“What I think makes Draped in Confidence so unique is that it is an event that has been created and designed strictly by women, for women,” added Anderson, who has been working on the event since January. “That is what makes me super proud of this clothing drive and all of the work I, and all the women supporting me, have done.”
