BVU, Greene County Schools Link Via Strategic Partnership

By partnering with Buena Vista University, the Greene County Community School District offers educational benefits to its employees and their eligible family members.

Buena Vista University (BVU) and the Greene County Community School District have cemented a bond as Strategic Partners to help support those who serve students.

This partnership allows for employees of the Greene County Community School District, as well as eligible family members of full-time employees, to receive grant funding to lower the overall cost of education while enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost per credit hour for students enrolled in BVU’s convenient online undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program.

“Being able to partner with a quality school like Buena Vista University creates exciting opportunities both in the present and for the future of the Greene County Community School District,” says Greene County Community School District Superintendent Brett Abbotts. “This Strategic Partnership presents a number of opportunities, including a reduced cost of education and long-term benefits for our students, as our teachers and paraprofessionals can further their own education and build opportunities to help better themselves and our students.”

The Greene County Community School District, with a staff numbering about 225 professionals, educates and serves about 1,200 students in grades K-12. The school district, which is headquartered in Jefferson, also maintains a middle school and high school sharing agreement with the Paton-Churdan Community School District. Greene County Schools’ mission focuses on “Promoting Lifelong Learners Through Real-World Experiences” and can be viewed in action at the district’s Greene County Career Academy which offers regional training opportunities for high school students through a partnership with Iowa Central Community College.

“BVU was a great place to get my degree, because the professors took an interest in me as a person which helped me be successful with my academics,” says a teacher at Greene County Elementary School who received their undergraduate degree from BVU. “The professors were easy to work with and talk to when I had questions and wanted to make my time on campus and online the best experience possible.”

BVU has long enjoyed strong educational ties in and around Fort Dodge, home to ICCC, a campus that has collaborated with BVU for decades. Students enrolled in a program through ICCC can seamlessly transfer their credits toward their bachelor’s degree at BVU. Students receive personalized support including admissions and enrollment counseling and academic advising right in Fort Dodge through BVU’s office on the ICCC campus.

“Buena Vista University is excited to partner with the Greene County Community School District, an organization that is focused on encouraging students to think critically and engage in real-world learning experiences,” says BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships Laura Todd. “We look forward to this collaboration with Greene County Schools and the opportunities it creates for individuals and the many positive impacts it will have in Jefferson, the state of Iowa, and beyond.”
