BVU Global Fellows Selected for 2019
During January Interim of their second year, the Global Fellows participate in a fully-funded, academically-oriented, interdisciplinary international experience.
Six students have been selected for Buena Vista University’s 2019 Global Fellows Program. The students include:
- Emma Bloom, a sophomore history major from Middletown, Md.
- Jordyn Daggs-Olson, a sophomore strategic public relations major from Eldora
- Madisyn Reiakvam, a sophomore biomedical sciences major from Centennial, Colo.
- Elizabeth Reiva, a sophomore environmental science major from Sioux City
- Claire Stepan, a sophomore biomedical sciences major from Lincolnwood, Ill.
- Rachel West, a sophomore exercise science and athletic training double major from Montevideo, Minn.
The Global Fellows Program aims to open substantive dialogue on issues of sustainability and geopolitics from a global perspective. Global Fellows are selected based on faculty recommendation letters and globalization-themed essay responses during their first year at BVU.
During January Interim of their second year, the Global Fellows participate in a fully-funded, academically-oriented, interdisciplinary international experience. During their junior and senior years, Global Fellows give back to the University as global ambassadors with a Scholar’s Day presentation and as student mentors for the first-year program.
Those who are selected participate in community projects and classwork specific to the program, including for-credit classes that complement their fully-funded international travel experience.
“The BVU Global Fellows experience truly embodies BVU’s Vision, which states in part that we develop programs that ‘are vital to preparing globally-engaged and ethical citizens who contribute to the economic, intellectual and cultural development of our world,’” said Dr. Melinda Coogan, professor of biology. “Students who are selected for the Global Fellows program find themselves traveling to the southern tip of the world and actively participating in life-changing conversations and events that open their eyes to the fact that we are all truly global citizens.”
