BVU, Crawford County Community Health Join In Strategic Partnership
Through a collaboration with Buena Vista University, Crawford County Community Health offers additional opportunities and educational benefits to its employees and their eligible family members.
Buena Vista University (BVU) and Crawford County Community Health have entered a Strategic Partnership that provides new opportunities to strengthen their communities and the people they serve.
This partnership allows for employees of Crawford County Community Health, as well as eligible family members of full-time employees, to receive grant funding to lower the overall cost of education while enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost per credit hour for students enrolled in BVU’s convenient online undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program.
“Education is important, particularly in the health care field where we engage in lifelong learning,” says Crawford County Community Health Administrator Kim Fineran. “This Strategic Partnership with BVU provides our employees the opportunity to pursue additional education that they might not have considered otherwise.”
“I chose BVU because of the small and close-knit community. It really feels like my home away from home.”

Crawford County Community Health is a governmental agency that provides public health services, such as Family STEPS, Child & Adolescent Immunization Program, and Family Planning; home health; homemaker; and hospice services to residents of Crawford County and the surrounding area. Based in Denison, the organization aims to remove barriers that result in inequities and promote policies, systems, and conditions to ensure an optimal level of health for all individuals.
“I chose BVU because of the small and close-knit community. It really feels like my home away from home,” says Bailey Gibbons, a BVU sophomore majoring agriculture education whose mother, Catalina Gibbons, is employed as an Interpreter at Crawford County Community Health. “I enjoy how welcoming everyone on campus is and how much they care about you. They just want you to succeed while still enjoying college.”
BVU has long enjoyed strong educational ties in and around Denison, home to Western Iowa Tech Community College, a campus that has collaborated with BVU for decades. Students enrolled in a program through WITCC can seamlessly transfer their credits toward their bachelor’s degree at BVU. Students receive personalized support including admissions and enrollment counseling and academic advising right in Denison through BVU’s office on the WITCC campus.
“Buena Vista University is thrilled to partner with Crawford County Community Health through our Strategic Partnerships initiative,” says BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships Laura Todd. “We look forward to this collaboration and the opportunities it creates for individuals, which strengthens the communities we serve.”
