BVU, Community & Family Resources form Strategic Partnership

A Strategic Partnership between Buena Vista University and Community & Family Resources will provide educational benefits to its employees and family members throughout eight counties in Iowa.

Buena Vista University (BVU) and Community & Family Resources have formed a Strategic Partnership, joining forces to continue to serve communities throughout Iowa.

This partnership allows for employees of Community & Family Resources, as well as eligible family members of full-time employees, to receive grant funding to lower the overall cost of education while enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost per credit hour for students enrolled in BVU’s convenient online/hybrid undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program.

BVU professors and staff are also available for training programs, workshops, and more should officials with Community & Family Resources seek those services and expertise.

“We have always encouraged our staff to pursue educational opportunities, and BVU has been a great resource."

Michelle De La Riva, Community & Family Resources Executive Director

“A Strategic Partnership with BVU is an added benefit that will impact our employees, their family members, and the several communities we serve,” says Community & Family Resources Executive Director, Michelle De La Riva. “This partnership provides a nice connection as many of our staff are BVU alumni.”

Community & Family Resources is a substance abuse treatment agency that has provided services to communities in Iowa for more than 50 years. Approximately 110 employees provide services to Boone, Calhoun, Hamilton, Humboldt, Pocahontas, Story, Webster, and Wright counties. The main campus in Fort Dodge provides adult and adolescent residential programs focused on substance abuse treatments. Community & Family Resources out-patient clinics offer mental health, gambling, and substance abuse treatment and prevention programs.

“We have always encouraged our staff to pursue educational opportunities, and BVU has been a great resource,” says Riva. “The more counselors we have to help our community stay healthy, the better place it is for people to work and thrive.”

BVU has long enjoyed strong educational ties in and around Fort Dodge, home to Iowa Central Community College, a campus that has collaborated with BVU for decades. Students enrolled in a program through ICCC can seamlessly transfer their credits toward their bachelor’s degree at BVU. Students receive personalized support including admissions and enrollment counseling and academic advising right in Fort Dodge through BVU’s office on the ICCC campus.

“At BVU, we are committed to serving our communities,” says BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships Laura Todd. “We look forward to our partnership with Community & Family Resources and the many positive impacts it will have on individuals throughout Iowa.”
