BVU, City of Marshalltown Join in Strategic Partnership

By partnering with Buena Vista University, the City of Marshalltown looks to expand the educational benefits they offer to employees and their families.

Buena Vista University (BVU) and the City of Marshalltown have strengthened ties as Strategic Partners, investing in the communities both entities serve.

This partnership allows for employees of the City of Marshalltown, as well as eligible family members of full-time employees, to receive grant funding to lower the overall cost of education while enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost per credit hour for students enrolled in BVU’s convenient online/hybrid undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program.

BVU professors and staff are also available for training programs, workshops, and more should officials with the City of Marshalltown seek those services and expertise.

“Through this Strategic Partnership, we are able to financially help individuals pursue opportunities to better themselves, personally and professionally.”

“We are excited to offer an additional benefit to our employees and their family members, helping to uplift our community,” says City of Marshalltown Human Resources Director Jill Petermeier. “Through this Strategic Partnership, we are able to financially help individuals pursue opportunities to better themselves, personally and professionally.”

The City of Marshalltown provides police department, fire department, public works department, public library, housing and community development, and parks and recreation services to more than 27,000 residents of Marshalltown.

BVU has long enjoyed strong educational ties in and around Marshalltown, home to Marshalltown Community College, a campus that has collaborated with BVU for decades. Students enrolled in a program through MCC can seamlessly transfer their credits toward their bachelor’s degree at BVU. Students receive personalized support including admissions and enrollment counseling, and academic advising right in Marshalltown through BVU’s office on the MCC campus.

“BVU hopes to strengthen our communities through access to quality, affordable education,” says BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships Laura Todd. “We look forward to helping create opportunities for employees and family members of the City of Marshalltown.”
