BVU Alumni in Des Moines, Omaha, Twin Cities host Buenafication Day Projects

BVU's annual Buenafication Day tradition expands on April 22 to alumni efforts in Omaha, Des Moines, and the Twin Cities.

In conjunction with the Buena Vista University’s greatest education-for-service tradition, Buenafication Day, alumni service projects are being held on Saturday, April 22, in locations across the Midwest.

Students and community members on campus and across the BVU community will formally observe Buenafication Day on Thursday, April 20, a time when more than 1,000 volunteers will gather and work for the 110th observance of the event. Alumni in and around Storm Lake on that day will work with students in hosting a Food Pantry Drop-off site from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a campus location to be determined.

Two days later, on Saturday, April 22, these events will be conducted by BVU alumni. Please feel free to join in the effort nearest you. Here is a list of projects on April 22:

Des Moines: Save the Fort Park Clean-up from 9 a.m. to noon at Fort Des Moines Park, 7200 SE 5th St. BVU Gift Office Seth Shatto ’15 will help coordinate.

Omaha: City Sprouts, from 1-3 p.m., at 4002 Seward St. BVU Director of Alumni Engagement Sarah Johnson serves as organizer for this project.

Minneapolis: Feed My Starving Children, from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., 990 Lone Oak Road, Suite 136, in Eagan, Minn. Matt Astleford ’02, Associate Vice President for University Advancement, will be on-site to help organize the event.

“For more than a century, Beavers given of themselves to improve the lives of those in their communities,” said Johnson. “It is so exciting to have alumni in cities such as Des Moines, Omaha, and the Twin Cities reaching out to volunteer their efforts, broadening BVU’s Education for Service mission on a day they remember so fondly.”
