Buena Vista University recently received grants from Buena Vista County Community Foundation (BVCCF) and AEDGrant.com to upgrade the automated external defibrillator (AED) devices available on campus.
BVU is receiving $4,166.28 from BVCCF and $3,325.62 from AEDGrant.com, which will go toward replacing two existing AEDs that have been discontinued and the purchase of four new devices that will be placed around campus. The additional devices will ensure AEDs continue to be readily available for all athletic practices and contests and will add a device in the Estelle Siebens Science Center, the campus security vehicle and Finkbine Natatorium.
“We are grateful to receive both the AEDGrant.com and the BVCCF grants. With these grants, we are now able to meet our goal and purchase a total of six AEDs,” said Tami Laursen, director of health services and wellness. “These devices will not only benefit the BVU community but also the numerous guests that come to campus for special performances and meetings or sporting, musical and theatrical events, as well as those who use the swimming pool and Lamberti Recreation Center.”
BVCCF provides grant funding to local not-for-profit groups in Buena Vista County whose projects will help to make Buena Vista County better in some way. The AEDGrant.com program is designed to provide funding to help institutions and individuals have life-saving AED devices available for use in the event of an emergency.
