Athletic Training Major Served Her Peers at BVU

Jessica Albright, who played soccer for the Beavers, also served four teams and completed a clinical rotation.

Jessica Albright says she wanted to attend a college where she believed she’d know many of the people she encountered while walking across campus.

Due to her major, Albright came to know many fellow Buena Vista University students. After all, she worked to treat dozens of them. That comes with the territory as an athletic training major.

“I worked with the football team, both basketball teams, and the wrestling team,” says Albright, who also completed a clinical rotation with Dr. Seth Harrer as part of her academic course of study.

“I absolutely loved my time at BVU. I know I loved it because I was so sad when it was over.”

All that experience has Albright ready for an internship at rival Wartburg College in Waverly. She’ll work for one year in the Knights’ athletic training department. She’ll then dive into her work on a master’s degree.

“I’ll work this year with Wartburg’s football team, and then I’ll either do wrestling or women’s basketball,” she says. “In the spring, I’ll work with their lacrosse team.”

The Colfax native came to BVU as a freshman intent in playing soccer. After two years, she decided to focus on her work in athletic training.

The day before what would have been BVU’s Commencement exercise, Albright headed to Dubuque for a board exam in her field. She’ll spend the rest of the summer readying for her graduate school experience. And, she’ll see if the Oct. 11 date will work in her schedule for a return to campus for BVU’s 129th Commencement exercise.

“We were devastated this spring when we learned we wouldn’t be coming back to campus because of the pandemic,” she says. “We’re a tight group on campus, especially the seniors.”

She’s anxious to see everyone this fall. That is, if the schedule agrees. The Wartburg football team is scheduled to play at the University of Dubuque on Oct. 10.

“I hope to make it back for Commencement,” she says. “I absolutely loved my time at BVU. I know I loved it because I was so sad when it was over.”
