Aaron Poor Bear

Aaron Poor Bear joined Buena Vista University as the Academic Recruitment Specialist for the School of Science in the Fall of 2024.

Aaron is a graduate of South Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in health, physical education, & recreation and a master’s degree from Ohio University with a master of sports and recreational sciences degree.

Aaron brings a wealth of experience as a recruitment specialist, having increased student enrollment for seven consecutive semesters at a previous institution. Aaron also has experience in administration as the assistant director for Upward Bound at the University of South Dakota. He coached basketball in junior high, high school, and collegiate ranks. Before joining BVU on a couple of stints, Aaron was the head men’s basketball coach at Minnesota West Community College where he led the team to the National Tournament, its first trip back in over 30 years.

Aaron enjoys time with his family, golfing, ping pong, and playing basketball.
