Dr. Scott Anderson

  • Professor of Marketing
  • Director of Business Internships

B.A., University of Northern Iowa
M.S., Colorado State University
DBA, Nova Southeastern University

Dr. Scott Anderson has been with BVU since 1996. He brings 15 years of industry experience into the classroom. His professional titles included Advertising Director, Senior Market Analyst, and Marketing Manager. Dr. Anderson believes these experiences uniquely prepared him to serve as Director of Business Internships. His professional business experiences, coupled with connections made through the BVU internship program, allow him to bring a wealth of "real-world" knowledge into the classroom where he speaks with authority regarding student learning and students' future career choices.

Dr. Anderson prepares students for internship experiences by making them "jump through several hoops." Students are required to read Who's in Charge of You by Steven Edwards. They then complete an exam over the book prior to completing the internship. Students often share it was one of the best books they've read in college and they wish they had read it sooner! Students pursuing internship opportunities are also required to complete a practice interview during the Practice with the Pros event held each fall and spring semester. Dr. Anderson shares his internship contacts and opportunities liberally throughout campus via email and social media (Facebook.com/bvubusiness and Twitter@BVUBusiness).

Dr. Anderson developed the January-Term(J-Term) Sports Marketing and Management trip to Phoenix, AZ, over 20 years ago. During this trip students network with professionals at the Phoenix Suns as well as Arizona Diamondbacks, Cardinals, and Coyotes. The group also visits Arizona State University, Phoenix International Raceway, and TPC Scottsdale (the home of the Phoenix Open Golf Tournament).

As the faculty advisor for the Accounting and Business Association, Dr. Anderson orchestrated multiple student/business trips to Des Moines, Omaha, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Denver, and Chicago. He also played an advising role for BVU's SHRM (Society of Human Resource Management) group and provided advice to students as he accompanied them to national conferences in Orlando, Las Vegas, and Washington, D.C.
