Kayla Hernandez graduated from the University of South Dakota with her master’s degree in vocal performance in 2017. In 2014, she graduated from Buena Vista University with a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Music Education.

Throughout her education, Hernandez sang the roles of Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni- Scene), Poppea (L’incoronazione di Poppea- Scene), The Countess (The Marriage of Figaro- Full Role), and Adina (The Elixir of Love- Full Role) for the USD Opera. She was a NATS Competition Finalist in Northwest Iowa and South Dakota in 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2017.

In May of 2017, Hernandez attended The Druid City Opera Workshop under the direction of Dr. Paul Houghtaling. In May of 2018, she sang Zweite Dame (Second Lady) in Die Zauberflöte in Bloomington, IN for Blooming Voce Summer Opera Workshop under the direction of Luke Housner.

Kayla is currently employed as the 11/12 iJAG Specialist at the Storm Lake High School, as well as an Adjunct Professor of Voice at Buena Vista University.
