  • Assistant Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Dr. Heather Delgado is an assistant professor in counselor education at Buena Vista University. She is also a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate in North Carolina and a Nationally Certified Counselor. Her educational journey started at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she received both a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Ph.D. in Counseling and Counselor Education. Clinically, she has worked as a professional counselor in private practice, non-profit, and school-based settings.

In addition to clinical work, she has been a counselor educator for six years and has primarily taught courses in the clinical mental health curriculum. Some of her favorite courses to teach are counseling theories and counseling skills. Throughout her educational and clinical experiences, Dr. Delgado has developed various teaching methods and techniques that she utilizes to meet the needs of her students. As an instructor, Dr. Delgado incorporates her own clinical experiences to bring life to the course material and provide students with real case examples. In addition, Dr. Delgado has clinical and research expertise in grief counseling that was the result of a unique counseling internship experience at Hospice and Palliative Care. Given her clinical passion, she attempts to bring this specialized information to her students, preparing them for this common concern that all clients will encounter. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with my family and friends and traveling.
