Dr. Dirk Halupnik

Dr. Dirk Halupnik is a veteran educational leader with more than 35 years of experience in PK–12 education, including over a decade as superintendent of the Southeast Polk Community School District in Iowa. Known for his steady, student-centered leadership, he has guided a fast-growing district of more than 7,500 students and 1,200 staff while maintaining strong fiscal health and community trust.

Under his leadership, the district has strengthened academic achievement through Professional Learning Communities, expanded STEM opportunities, and implemented innovative, systemwide practices that support both student success and staff development. He has successfully led multiple bond and levy initiatives, overseen significant facilities expansion, and helped position the district as a model at both the state and national levels. These efforts have contributed to recognitions including Iowa Top Workplace, National Model PLC District, HRS certification, National Blue Ribbon schools, and national honors in STEM and school leadership.

Dr. Halupnik began his career as a science teacher and multi-sport coach in Dike and Dike-New Hartford, later teaching advanced science courses and coaching at Cedar Falls High School. He went on to serve as a high school administrator, Executive Director of Teaching and Learning, and Deputy Superintendent in the Linn-Mar Community School District. His leadership and service have been recognized through numerous honors in both education and athletics.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership, all from the University of Northern Iowa.
