Dr. Carlos Acosta-Ponce

Dr. Acosta-Ponce’s teaching and scholarship are centered on 20th and 21st century American literature, with a focus on comic books and the intersections between literature, culture, and contemporary media. He is particularly interested in the period known as the British Invasion of Comics in the mid to late 1980s and in late-Cold War American comics, as well as in the exploration of personal histories of trauma and adversity in graphic autobiographies.

Dr. Acosta-Ponce teaches literature and literature-based composition courses on contemporary graphic fiction, the graphic memoir, and the global cultural impact of comic books across mass media, exposing students to a diverse literary canon while they learn the ins and outs of academic writing.
