Dr. Bret Richards brings passion and a diverse background in both corporate operations and academia to Buena Vista University.
He grew up in a family business and from the age of seven witnessed his parent’s entrepreneurial skills and the drive to succeed in business. He attended the University of Iowa and received a B.S. in Civil Engineering and then served in the Army as a combat engineer officer. When his time in the Army was complete, Dr. Richards and his wife Jill returned to the family business for the next 16 years, which included convenience stores, restaurants, transportation, and wholesale businesses. His education includes a Ph.D. in Human Capital Management as well as a M.A. in Leadership from Bellevue University.
In the last decade, he enjoyed teaching as an adjunct professor at Creighton University where he taught Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods and other leadership classes as well as serving on several dissertation committees. At Buena Vista University he has taught human resources, business and management classes.
