Dr. Bumstead’s scholarship and teaching focus on the intersections of literature and media, and he is particularly interested in Disney film and theme park adaptations of nineteenth-century British children's literature. His critical work has been published in a variety of academic journals, including Texas Studies in Literature and Language, South Atlantic Review, and Journal of Comparative Studies. His current academic project investigates the Creole languages of Cape Verde, West Africa. In addition to his scholarship, he also writes screenplays and novels.
