Buena Vista University announces that Dr. David Evans will be leaving his position as vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty effective Jan. 1, 2015, to accept a position at Southern Vermont College.

Evans has held the position at BVU since mid-2008. During his time in this leadership role, Evans instituted academic governance of the BVU Graduate & Professional Studies (GPS) program; facilitated approval of several new bachelor's and master's degree programs, including the Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree and creation of master's degree in Mental Health Counseling; oversaw the 2010 comprehensive Higher Learning Council review and reaffirmation; supervised the hiring of 36 current full-time faculty; contributed to the establishment of three new GPS locations; and helped develop new international partnerships that have led to international teaching opportunities for students and recruitment of degree-seeking students from other countries, including Korea.

Upon leaving BVU, Evans will assume the role of President at Southern Vermont College. Southern Vermont College is a career-enhanced private liberal arts college that offers 15 academic degree programs. Located in Bennington, Vermont, the college is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

"On behalf of BVU, I thank David for his service over the last six and one-half years. Under his leadership, we have advanced our academic program in significant ways," said BVU President Fred Moore. "He has also been a wonderful colleague and advocate for BVU. The BVU community is happy that David can fulfill his professional aspirations through this new opportunity."

Plans for interim leadership in Evans' role and a search to fill the position are currently being pursued by the University.
