Concert Band Presents Holiday Concert Dec. 6

The Buena Vista University Concert Band, under the direction of Jerry Bertrand, assistant professor of music, will present its annual Holiday concert on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. in Schaller Memorial Chapel on the BVU campus.

The Buena Vista University Concert Band, under the direction of Jerry Bertrand, assistant professor of music, will present its annual Holiday concert on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. in Schaller Memorial Chapel on the BVU campus. The concert is free and open to the public to attend.

The program will open with "Trieste Overture" written by Pietro Deiro. This composition was originally written as an accordion solo in the early 20th Century. The featured works of the concert will include, "Give Us This Day: Short Symphony for Wind Ensemble" written by David Maslanka and a programmatic work called “Ghost Train” by Eric Whitacre.

Contributing to the spirit of the holiday, the BVU Concert Band will perform "The Eighth Candle" by Steve Reisteter. This work is written in celebration of Hanukkah and is dedicated to the Jewish tradition. Other traditional carols include, "I Wonder as I Wander" by John Jacob Niles and “All Through the Night” arranged by Sammy Nestico.
