BVU aligns with Missouri Valley schools via Strategic Partnership

Buena Vista University Strategic Partnership allows for employees of the Missouri Valley schools, as well as family members of full-time employees, to receive grant funding to lower the cost of education while enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus and more.

Buena Vista University (BVU) and the Missouri Valley Community School District have aligned as Strategic Partners to help strengthen their communities and beyond.

This partnership allows for employees of the Missouri Valley schools, as well as eligible family members of full-time employees, to receive grant funding to lower the overall cost of education while enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost per credit hour for students enrolled in BVU’s convenient online/hybrid undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program.

BVU professors and staff are also available for training programs, workshops, and more should officials at Missouri Valley seek those services and expertise.

“We are excited about our partnership with Buena Vista University as it represents a win-win situation for our school district, our employees, and their family members as well.”

“We are excited about our partnership with Buena Vista University as it represents a win-win situation for our school district, our employees, and their family members as well,” says Missouri Valley Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brent Hoesing. “As a school district and a leader in this wonderful region, we highly value education and the impact it has all the way through our communities. We wholeheartedly support our employees and their families as they work to better themselves and one another through higher education.”

The Missouri Valley Community School District, located in Missouri Valley, provides educational programs for nearly 800 students of Missouri Valley, nearby Honey Creek, and the surrounding area in a safe, loving, attentive learning environment for students of all ages, backgrounds, and ability levels. Staff members participate in collaborative and innovative professional development with a focus on effective elements of instruction, data-driven decision making, and the development of a growth mindset.

“Dr. William Cumberland was my main American history professor at Buena Vista University,” says Brian Knott, a 1992 BVU graduate. “He literally wrote books about the history of BVU and lived a lot of that history. Now, I teach middle school social studies and some concepts Dr. Cumberland taught are being passed on to eighth-graders at Missouri Valley.

“Of course, I also have lifelong friends from my time at BVU and memories that will last forever. It was four years that set me up for my future and truly an amazing time,” adds Knott, a former Beaver student-athlete who teaches, coaches, and serves as athletic director for the Big Reds.

“Buena Vista University strives to challenge and reward our students through innovation as well as time-tested methodologies supported by data. We are excited to partner with a school district that holds similar values,” says BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships Laura Todd. “We are proud to partner with the Missouri Valley Community School District, working with their administrators, teachers, and staff to help build stronger communities.”
