BVU, Albia Community School District Establish Strategic Partnership

Through a collaboration with Buena Vista University, Albia Community School District offers educational benefits to its employees and their eligible family members.

Buena Vista University (BVU) and Albia Community School District have aligned as Strategic Partners, providing new opportunities to transform the communities both entities serve.

This partnership allows for employees of Albia Community School District, as well as eligible family members of full-time employees, to receive grant funding to lower the overall cost per credit hour while enrolled in BVU’s convenient online undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost of education for students enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus.

“This partnership will give our staff and their families the opportunity to save on tuition and pursue higher education at a quality post-secondary institution that offers the flexibility and options they need,” says Joellen Swartz, Program Equity Coordinator.

Albia Community School District, located entirely in Albia, includes Kendall Center PK, Grant Elementary, Lincoln Center, and the Junior & Senior High School, serving 1,142 PK–12 students with a dedicated team of over 170 staff members. All schools consistently earn high ratings on the Iowa School Performance Profile, and students can participate in more than 40 clubs, organizations, and extracurricular activities. Guided by the mission “Success for All,” the district is committed to providing opportunities for every student to thrive.

“I chose Buena Vista University because its online program is accessible and flexible, which makes continuing my education realistic while working,” says Haleigh Moyle employee of Albia CSD. “I’m pursuing secondary education with the goal of becoming a history teacher, and I’m excited that BVU offers a pathway that will help me get into the classroom more quickly. I hope this partnership encourages other Albia employees to take advantage of the opportunity to further their education as well.”

“We are thrilled to launch this partnership with the Albia Community School District and extend these educational benefits to their team,” says Laura Todd, BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships. “By expanding access to affordable, high-quality degree programs, this collaboration reflects the district’s ‘Success for All’ mission. Together, we are supporting the educators and leaders who shape the future.”
