Once again, Spring Break was full of service and fun for Buena Vista University students and faculty. Many of them took part in A.W.O.L., BVU's alternative spring break program, traveling to three different sites to perform service.

Buena Vista University ROTC Cadet Brandy Fowler, a senior public administration and political science major from Spirit Lake, was selected to attend the 2016 George C. Marshall Awards and Leadership Conference.

The Buena Vista University Concert Choir earned first place honors at the Concorso Corale Internazionale Riva del Garda international choir competition. The group traveled to Italy over spring break to compete in the festival.

Buena Vista University has announced the hiring of Jack Denholm, to replace Christyn Abaray as the university's next Director of Athletics. He is scheduled to begin his duties on campus in mid-June.

Four professors have been selected as finalists for BVU's 2016 George Wythe Award for Excellence in Teaching. The winner will be announced at the Faculty and Staff Recognition Dinner on May 20.

Leon E. Panetta, who served as U.S. Secretary of Defense from 2011-13, will be the 22nd William W. Siebens American Heritage Lecture laureate on Oct. 7. He joins a list of preeminent lecturers that has included former world leaders and heads of state.

Derek Simonsen is one of only 30 U.S. students to be awarded the fellowship, which provides financial support for undergraduate study and an EPA facility internship, and plans to research emerging contaminants.

Senior Nick Clark hit a three-pointer with 0.1 seconds left in overtime on Saturday afternoon that lifted the Buena Vista men's basketball team to a thrilling 97-94 victory over visiting Central College.

BVU's Global Fellows spent their January near the southernmost city in the world, Puerto Williams, Chile. They explored the area's glaciers, mountains and forests, learning to see the world through the eyes of others.
