Dr. Renee Fensom

  • Director of Professional School Counseling

Dr. Fensom has an extensive background in counseling, primarily in the K-12 setting. She specializes in working with adolescents and diverse populations. Her rich experience spans across the elementary, middle, and high school levels as a professional school counselor (PSC) for over 19 years. A commitment to supporting professional school counselors is evident through Dr. Fensom’s advocacy work and dedication to helping future PSC’s. Dr. Fensom has experience serving as the site supervisor and clinical university supervisor for numerous master’s level counseling students. She believes professional school counseling is her life’s work and wants to ensure future PSC’s receive the best training and preparation to make a difference in children’s lives. 

In addition to professional school counseling, Dr. Fensom has experience in private practice and teaching on the collegiate level. She has taught hybrid, face-to-face, and online courses. Furthermore, she is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a state-approved LPC and Marriage and Family Therapy supervisor (Virginia). In addition, a commitment to research is important to Dr. Fensom. Her research interests include psychological well-being, resilience, and stress management. Dr. Fensom plans to continue contributing to research, especially in the field of professional school counseling.
