Four Buena Vista University students culminated a charitable campaign of their own creation on June 26 by donating over $2,200 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa.

The Buena Vista Athletics Hall of Fame will induct four new members during halftime ceremonies of the BVU vs. Concordia-Moorhead football game on Saturday, September 14. Jacque Jerkovich SL'84, Randy Lewis SL'90, Nick Beard SL'02 and Jessica (Jensen) Carney SL'03 will join the illustrious group as the Class of 2013.

Seth Peterson, a 2007 graduate of Buena Vista University, was chosen by The Institute of Internal Auditors as one of the 20 best and brightest next generation of internal auditors.

Two Buena Vista University alumni - Dr. James D. Alstott and Dr. Kyle J. Glienke - received their medical degrees from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in May. Through their years at BVU and in medical school, they have formed a lasting friendship.

Thirteen instructors for Buena Vista University's Graduate & Professional Studies program were honored as "Faculty Members of the Year" for their sites at BVU's annual Faculty/Staff Recognition Dinner.

A BVU student organization and individuals from the campus community were recognized this week by Iowa Campus Compact with awards and honorable mentions at ICC's 2012 anniversary awards ceremony in Dubuque.

Jerry Johnson, assistant professor of digital media, was named the 27th recipient of the prestigious George Wythe Award, Buena Vista University's highest honor for excellence in teaching, at the annual Faculty/Staff Recognition Dinner.

The 13th annual Education for Service Award was presented to Deborah Willer during Buena Vista University's Faculty/Staff Recognition Dinner held May 24.

Four BVU faculty and staff members will travel to Spain and Morocco in mid-June as part of the 2013 McCorkle Fellowship program. They will visit various destinations throughout the two countries to gain international perspective.

Students have been imagining the prairie grass and oxen herds of old through initiatives of the Rural Lit. RALLY at St. Mary's School the past few months. The project is directed by Dr. Paul Theobald, the dean of BVU's School of Education & Exercise Science.

Twenty-one BVU students will be honored on campus at the 2013 Governor's Volunteer Award ceremonies. Overall 100 individuals and organizations from northwest Iowa are to receive awards at the event.

Following a stellar finish at Ironman Texas last weekend, Dr. Matt Hanson has qualified to race as an elite athlete. He shaved 46 minutes off his personal record and has once again qualified for the Ironman World Championship.

In addition to receiving their bachelor's degrees, Dez Broeg and Jessica Vega-Argueta will have something else to be proud of when they walk across the stage at Buena Vista University's commencement ceremonies on May 25.
