BVU, Spencer Schools Align Through Strategic Partnership

Through a Strategic Partnership with Buena Vista University, the Spencer Community School District can offer educational benefits to full-time employees and their eligible family members.

Buena Vista University (BVU) and the Spencer Community School District have entered a Strategic Partnership that will benefit both entities as they work to strengthen people and areas they serve.

This partnership allows for employees of the Spencer schools, as well as eligible family members of full-time employees, to receive grant funding to lower the overall cost of education while enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost per credit hour for students enrolled in BVU’s convenient online/hybrid undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program.

“This Strategic Partnership with Buena Vista University represents a great opportunity for our employees, their family members, and the Spencer community.”

“This Strategic Partnership with Buena Vista University represents a great opportunity for our employees, their family members, and the Spencer community,” says Spencer Community School District Superintendent Terry Hemann. “Being able to provide our employees with a savings on education is a win-win opportunity for both the school district and BVU.”

The Spencer Community School District provides educational benefits for nearly 2,250 students in the Clay County seat. More than 325 teachers and staff members are positioned throughout the school district’s high school, middle school, and three elementary schools.

BVU has long enjoyed strong educational ties in and around Spencer, home to Iowa Lakes Community College, a campus that has collaborated with BVU for decades. Students enrolled in a program through Iowa Lakes can seamlessly transfer their credits toward their bachelor’s degree at BVU. Students receive personalized support including admissions and enrollment counseling and academic advising right in Spencer through BVU’s office on the Iowa Lakes campus.

“We are excited to partner with the Spencer Community School District and provide partner grant funding to help lower the cost of education for employees and their family members,” says BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships Laura Todd. “Access to quality, affordable education opens many opportunities for individuals, and we look forward to strengthening the Spencer community and beyond through this Strategic Partnership.”
