BVU Announces 2026 Commencement Speakers

Distinguished leaders Shad Robinson ’96 and Dr. Trent Grundmeyer ’03 to address undergraduate and graduate ceremonies.

Buena Vista University (BVU) is pleased to announce that Shad Robinson, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Texas, will serve as the keynote speaker for the 2026 undergraduate Commencement ceremony.

Robinson earned his degree in political science and criminal justice, with a minor in religion and philosophy, from BVU in 1996. He was appointed to the federal bench in 2023 and currently serves the Austin–Midland Divisions of the Western District of Texas.

“I’m honored to return to Buena Vista University to celebrate this important milestone with the Class of 2026,” said Robinson. “My time at BVU helped shape my professional path, and I look forward to sharing that perspective with graduates as they begin their next chapter.”

After graduating from BVU, Robinson earned his Juris Doctor from Baylor Law School and began his legal career clerking for the Honorable Leif M. Clark. He later spent more than two decades with the Haley & Olson law firm, as an associate and partner, where he represented individuals, financial institutions, and businesses in bankruptcy and commercial matters in Texas and numerous other states. He also served as an adjunct professor at Baylor Law School for over 20 years.

“We are proud to welcome Shad back to campus as our undergraduate Commencement speaker,” said BVU President Brian A. Lenzmeier, Ph.D. “His career reflects a deep commitment to service and leadership, and he is an outstanding example for our graduates.”

Dr. Trent Grundmeyer ’03, founder of Grundmeyer Leader Services and associate professor of education leadership at BVU, will address graduates at the University’s graduate Commencement ceremony.

Grundmeyer previously served as a professor at Drake University and as a high school principal in Iowa. He was recognized as the 2013 Secondary Principal of the Year by the School Administrators of Iowa.

“Trent exemplifies the leadership and commitment to education that we strive to instill in our graduate students,” said Lenzmeier. “His work continues to make a meaningful impact on schools and communities across the region.”

In addition to his role at BVU, Grundmeyer leads Grundmeyer Leader Services, supporting school districts in leadership searches and strategic planning. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Iowa State University.

BVU’s graduate Commencement ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, in Siebens Fieldhouse, followed by the undergraduate Commencement ceremony at 2 p.m.
