Buena Vista University President Dr. Joshua D. Merchant Resigns
Merchant has stepped down from his role as BVU President, effective immediately. Dr. Brian Lenzmeier was appointed by the BVU Board of Trustees to serve as Interim President.
Today the Buena Vista University Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Dr. Joshua Merchant, who has stepped down from his role as BVU President, effective immediately. The resignation of Dr. Merchant has been shared internally with BVU faculty, staff, and students.
Dr. Brian Lenzmeier, who has served as BVU’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs since 2018, was appointed by the board to serve as Interim President. Dr. Lenzmeier joined BVU in 2003 as a Professor of Biology. He has twice been named “Faculty Member of the Year” by the BVU Student Senate, and was the 2009 recipient of the George Wythe Award, BVU’s highest honor for excellence in teaching. The Board is pleased to have a longtime, widely admired member of the BVU community to serve as its interim leader as it continues its path forward.
