Title IX Policies & Procedures

Buena Vista University maintains policies and procedures that prohibit sex discrimination and sexual misconduct and outline how reports and complaints are addressed.

Sexual Misconduct and Title IX Policy

BVU's Sexual Misconduct and Title IX Policy addresses prohibited conduct, reporting options, supportive measures, and the processes used to respond to reports and complaints.

Prohibited conduct addressed by University policy includes:

  • Sex discrimination
  • Sexual harassment
  • Sexual assault
  • Domestic violence
  • Dating violence
  • Stalking
  • Sexual exploitation
  • Retaliation

The policy also provides important definitions related to consent, incapacitation, coercion, complainants, respondents, reports, complaints, and other terms used throughout the University's Title IX process.

Title IX Grievance Procedures

BVU's grievance procedures explain how the University responds to complaints of sex discrimination and sexual misconduct, including applicable procedures for investigation and resolution.

Employee Reporting Responsibilities

University employees who are not designated confidential resources and who receive information regarding possible sexual misconduct are instructed to promptly report that information to the Title IX Coordinator in accordance with University policy.

Reports should include relevant information known to the employee, such as the individuals involved and the date, time, location, and circumstances of the reported conduct.

Employees receiving a report should not attempt to investigate the allegation, determine credibility, or require an individual to provide additional details. The Title IX Coordinator will evaluate the information and determine appropriate next steps consistent with University policy.

Harassment and Discrimination

BVU is committed to maintaining a community in which individuals are treated with dignity and respect and are free from unlawful discrimination and harassment.

BVU prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion or religious belief, creed, citizenship status, sex, marital status, familial status, disability, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, military service or affiliation, genetic information, age, and other characteristics protected by law in its educational programs, employment, and University activities.

Sexual and gender-based misconduct is addressed through the University's Sexual Misconduct and Title IX Policy. Other allegations of discrimination and harassment are addressed under BVU's Policy Against Harassment and Discrimination.
