Buena Vista University has announced that Glenn DeStigter of Ankeny has been reelected to the Board of Trustees. He is former president, CEO and board chairman of The Weitz Company.

Buena Vista University has announced that Scott Byers of Roaring Brook Township, Pa., has been elected to the Board of Trustees. He is president and chief executive officer of EDM Americas.

Buena Vista University has announced that David Dvergsten of Storm Lake has been elected to the Board of Trustees. Dvergsten is president and CEO of Security Trust & Savings Bank.

Education majors at Buena Vista University are at the center of a new initiative to provide after-school assistance to local students at no cost. The BVU students are tutoring high schoolers at St. Mary's in Storm Lake.

On Dec. 5, the Buena Vista University community gathered together for the 27th Annual All-Campus Christmas Dinner, where students are served a holiday meal by the University faculty and staff.

Nick Buelt SL'08 and Courtney (Pennell) Buelt SL'08 were married on June 22, 2013 at the Lord of Love Lutheran Church in Omaha, Neb. The wedding reception included a sweet touch - a Beaver-themed groom's cake.

Five Buena Vista University band members have been selected to participate in the 20th Annual Iowa Collegiate Honor Band. This year marks BVU's 15th year with students participating in the honor band.

Beloved mascot Buford T. Beaver celebrated his birthday on Nov. 8, with cupcakes and well wishes from BVU students, faculty and staff. The party was sponsored by BVU's Student Activities Board.

Buena Vista University was the winner in a blood battle competition held among Simpson College and Central College in September. Participation in the drive doubled from a year ago.

"As You Like It", considered one Shakespeare's great romantic comedies, will be performed on campus November 6-9. The setting of the play has been updated to the 1940s, to include romantic music from that era.

Several digital media students attended the national College Media Association conference in New Orleans. They presented a session about BVU's fully online multimedia news organization.

BVU has celebrated the culmination of their five-year capital campaign, <i>See Tomorrow: The Campaign for Buena Vista University</i>. The campaign raised a total of $30,059,697 to invest in students, faculty and campus.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice stated, "Always assume that people desire the same dignity and same rights that you do," during her student panel question-and-answer session at Buena Vista University.

On Oct. 4, BVU hosted its 16th Annual Career Symposium, allowing students to connect with alumni in their respective field of study and find out more about the career paths open to them.

Gwendolyn Walton and Demetrius Heard were named Buena Vista University's Homecoming king and queen for 2013. They were crowned at the coronation ceremony on Friday, Oct. 4.
