Career and Leadership Development Welcomes Alumni to Campus for Professional Mixer

Mixer allows students to connect with alumni while learning more about companies in the region and the employment opportunities they have for interns and graduates.

Several BVU alumni joined current students, faculty, and staff at the Professional Mixer hosted by BVU Career and Leadership Development in Siebens Forum on Feb. 2.

Employers connected with 50 students at the event, allowing professionals to share employment information and details surrounding paid internships, openings, benefits, opportunities for growth, and more.

“It was so rewarding to see and work with students who are in the same exciting position I was in as a soon-to-be BVU graduate a few years ago.”

“With this being the first time we have hosted an event like this in recent years, we were very pleased to see the positive response among our students and the companies represented,” said Sami (Hall) Kay ’13 MA ’20, Assistant Director, BVU Career and Leadership Development. “We’re excited to see how our Professional Mixer will evolve and gain even more traction among professionals and students.”

“It was so rewarding to see and work with students who are in the same exciting position I was in as a soon-to-be BVU graduate a few years ago,” says Lani Brown ’18, a Treatment Program Supervisor for the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services. “It was so interesting to see our students and offer insight and assistance while answering their questions about the job market and more.”

Eduardo Garcia, a junior business and finance major from Sioux City, took the time to speak with Nereyda (Manriquez) Beeck, a 2015 BVU graduate who is a Certified Public Accountant serving Williams & Company, of Spencer.

“It’s good experience to network with employers as we learn more about these companies and the career opportunities they offer,” Garcia says. “This helps us prepare for the interview process and more.”
